Saluda in Polk County took second place honors and $200 in the community club division of the WNC Beautiful Contest The Tryon Central Business District Committee received honorable mention in the non community club division and won $50. The awards were made Tuesday at the annual WNC Beautiful awards luncheon at the S & W Cafeteria in Asheville Mall. Evangelistic Services At Mill Creek Church The Mill Creek Church of the Brethren in the Green Creek Community will hold evangelistic services starting Monday, Sept. 21st through Friday, Sept. 25th at 7:30 each evening. The Rev. Jim Harper of Birmingham, Alabama will be the guest speaker. The Rev. Fred Cline is the pastor. There will be special music each evening. Miss Karen McCarty of Landrum is a student at the Western Carolina University at Cullowhee. Frank Johnson Is Senior Champion At Tryon C. C. In the Tryon Country Club Men’s Senior Championship finals, Frank Johnson emerged the winner over Joe Knowlton. Marion Palmer, last year’s champion, won the consolation flight final match, defeating George Blaine. Rotary Speaker Sen. Bo Thomas The Tryon Rotary Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Pacolet River Plantation. Guest speaker will be State Senator R. P. “Bo" Thomas of the 27th Senatorial District which includes the ten far-western counties of North Carolina, Polk County among them. Senator Thomas has just completed his second term in the North Carolina General Assembly. He has served as Chairman of the Small Business Committee, Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee, and on the Select Committee of Transportation.
